Green Interstate Explores US 60It appears, or disappears, in the Arizona desert, just after leaving or before entering California. There it merges with continent spanning Interstate 10 that takes you to the Pacific Coast in Santa Monica, much like Route 66 does. But at US 60's western end, at Brenda, you can eat at the Buckeroo Cafe or Black Rock Cafe. A bit further east and you might bolt north on US 71 for a trip into amazing high pine forest and visit the town of Prescott. Aside from 4 chargers at a KOA in Salome, along with a few in Wickenburg, you will be doing any charging at level 1, trickling electrons into your electric vehicle at 110-120 volts from a conventional plug, using the charging cable in your trunk to boot.
Further east on 60 and you will get a surprise, literally, Surprise, Arizona, home of massive Sun City retirement communities, and further on in Phoenix you might then visit a Frank Lloyd Wright designed hotel, as well as that architect's winter design haunts at Taliesan West. While driving and putting about the area, consider that it also has more golf courses per acre than anywhere else on the planet.
After charging up in Phoenix, if you roll out of town on Route 60, you will rise up rapidly into the the Tonto National Forest, Superstition Mountains that embrace the Salado (Salt) River. A rapid ride on that stretch can be previewed by watching the video offered below. The towns of
The towns of Superior, Miami, and Globe await you as you head east. Our recommendation is that you carve out, or plan in, time to visit the Besh-Ba-Gowah First Nations site and museum. We were surprised at how similar it is to one of the first cities built 9000-years-ago in what is now Turkey, a site called Catal Huyuck. A model of the site, shown herem was created by Steven C. Price
While in Globe, you can contemplate that it is the start or end of US Route 70 that will take you all the way to the Atlantic. If you choose not to go that way, staying on 60 offers you the amazing scenery of the Fort Apache Reservation of First Peoples. If you have taken US 70 west from the Atlantic, reread the preceeding paragraphs for what lays ahead of you on Route 60.
We're going to leave you at this spot on the globe, perhaps exploring the region fully from times ancient and fun times modern, Looking forward to your recollections of the route!
